Jonah Savaiinaea wasn’t able to play in Arizona’s season finale, an injury suffered the week before keeping him out, but he was dressed for the Territorial Cup and participated in the pregame coin toss. That will turn out to be his final time in a Wildcats uniform.
Savaiinaea has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, the first of three expected early departures from the UA roster for the NFL.

The 6-foot-5, 336-pound Savaiinaea started all 36 games he played in for Arizona, beginning at right guard as a true freshman and then moving to right tackle in 2023. This past season he shifted between both tackle spots, starting his final five games at left tackle as injuries mounted on the offensive line.

The Wildcats’ NIVC win stretches their winning streak to eight matches. The NIVC is a time to get experience for young players. It’s also a time to get more matches for seniors who have stayed loyal to the program and helped it improve. Arizona did some of both in its 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Pacific in the second round of the season-ending tournament Saturday evening.
The win stretches Arizona’s latest winning streak to eight. If they win the NIVC championship, they will end the season the same way they started—with an 11-match winning streak.
The Wildcats (21-9, 9-9 Big 12) advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament to face Wyoming (17-12, 7-11 MWC). The Cowgirls defeated Washington State in the opening round before knocking out Utah Collapse

With four losses in the previous five games and a losing record overall, there were plenty of things Tommy Lloyd wanted to see from Arizona in its return to action after a week off. But one goal topped the list.
“A win,” Lloyd said after the Wildcats thumped Southern Utah 102-66. “It’s what I wanted. Got it. Feeling good.”
Arizona posted its fourth win by at least 29 points and fourth scoring 93 or more, getting seven players in double figures and showing aggression on defense to turn steals into points. Now comes another week off before the UA faces old friend/foe UCLA on Dec. 7 in Phoenix.

During the 2023-24 season, Arizona used the same starting lineup for all but one game. The exception was on Senior Day when walk-on Grant Weitman got to play the first 4-plus minutes against Oregon.
Through eight games this season, the Wildcats have already started seven different players, resulting in a trio of lineups. The most recent change was borne of discipline, but it may end up being a shift that bolsters the entire UA rotation.
For the second straight game, freshman Carter Bryant started while sophomore KJ Lewis. Tommy Lloyd made that decision ahead of the Battle4Atlantis third-place game against West Virginia as punishment for Lewis picking up a second taunting technical the day before. It was supposed to just be a 1-game thing, until Lewis suggested otherwise.

Like so much of his career, TJ McConnell took the hard way to get into the Arizona Ring of Honor.
The former UA point guard will get overdue recognition when he’s inducted on Dec. 18 when the Wildcats host Samford at McKale Center. Arizona men’s basketball announced that a ceremony will take place on the court prior to the start of the game.
McConnell, one of the most accomplished players of the Sean Miller era, qualified for the Ring of Honor by accumulating 10+ years in the NBA. The 32-year-old McConnell is in his 10th season in the league, the last six of which have been with the Indiana Pacers.
The Pacers are playing the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 19, which is why the ceremony was scheduled for a mid-week nonconference game.
McConnell was a First Team All Pac-12 selection as a senior in 2015 and was Second Team All Pac-12 as a junior. He was also a two-time member of the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. As a senior, he set the program record for Collapse

When Brent Brennan spoke about his first recruiting class on Wednesday, he did so knowing there was one player yet to sign. And now we know why.
4-star quarterback Robert McDaniel, the second-highest rated commit in the UA’s class, will instead sign with UCLA according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
A top-500 player in the 2025 recruiting class, McDaniel had been committed to Arizona since May and as of Tuesday was still planning to sign with the Wildcats. He had a signing ceremony scheduled at his high school in Hughson, Calif. but that event was cancelled.
Per Thamel, McDaniel’s decision to flip to UCLA was related to the Bruins hiring Tino Susneri from Indiana to be offensive coordinator after letting go of OC Eric Bienemy,. Those moves weren’t announced until Thursday, though.
McDaniel likely found himself a hot commodity after multiple California schools lost QB commits on Wednesday. That included UCLA, which saw 4-star Madden Iamaleava flipping to Arkansas.

3 Wildcats got honorable mention nods In its first season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, in 1978, Arizona finished with a losing record and landed one player on the all-conference first team. Flash forward 46 years, and with a different conference, and the same things have happened.
Junior wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is the Wildcats’ lone representative on the All-Big 12 Conference First Team, an honor that follows up his spot on the final All-Pac-12 First Team a year already. McMillan was also an honorable mention selection for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Junior cornerback Tacario Davis made the Second Team, while offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea, defensive back Dalton Johnson and kicker Tyler Loop were honorable mention choices.
McMillan, who is expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, set the UA career receiving record with 3,423 yards. This season he had 84 receptions for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the Collapse

It felt like only a matter of time until Arizona football lost a top defensive player to the NCAA transfer portal.
Linebacker Jacob Manu became the biggest name yet to enter the portal from the 2024 Wildcats team that went 4-8.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 was first to report the news.

Manu missed Arizona’s last five games with a non-contact knee injury he suffered in the UA’s loss to Colorado. Manu had 19 tackles as a junior and one fumble recovery.

It’s Player Movement SZN, otherwise known as the opening of the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Though it had been open for select players for a while, Monday will mark the beginning of a 30-day window for all FBS and FCS football players to put their names in. And once they’ve been in the portal for 24 hours they can start making visits to other schools.
Arizona is expected to be extremely active in the portal this offseason, needing to fill holes left by graduation, the NFL Draft and its own portal entries as well as beefing up a roster that went 4-8 overall and 2-7 in the Big 12 in 2024.

When Arizona signed a quartet of players from Anaheim’s Servite High School three years ago, Keyan Burnett was the second-highest ranked of the group. But injuries and opportunities got in the way of him living up to expectations during his Wildcat career, which appears to be coming to an end.
Burnett announced Saturday he would enter the NCAA transfer portal on Monday when it opens, opting to look elsewhere to play his final season of eligibility.

The 6-foot-6, 248-pound Burnett appeared in 32 games for Arizona from 2022-24 with eight starts, including three of the first four games this season. His last start, in the Big 12 opener at Utah, featured his biggest individual highlight when he caught the game-sealing touchdown from high school teammate Noah Fifita.

In losing four of five games, Arizona had resembled a team of individuals that looked more interested in personal goals than collective ones. Tommy Lloyd was looking for more “us moments” as the Wildcats returned to the court for the first time in more than a week.
One game doesn’t make a trend, but it could start one.
Arizona had seven players in double figures in a 102-66 blowout win over Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon at McKale Center. The victory gets the UA (4-4) back to .500 after having a losing record for the first time since 2010.
Anthony Dell’Orso led the Wildcats with 19 points, part of a bench output that produced 62 points and outscored Southern Utah 35-23 in the first half. KJ Lewis had 15 along with eight rebounds and five assists, Tobe Awaka, Trey Townsend and Henri Veesaar 12 each, Caleb Love 11 and Motiejus Krivas 10 for the UA, which shot 50 percent and was 28 of 36 from the line.

Before the season, the Arizona volleyball coaching staff divided the term into five “sets.” The fifth set was the postseason. While the Wildcats (20-9, 9-9 Big 12) didn’t get to the version of set five that they wanted, they did push through to the final set in some form with an appearance in the NIVC.
What does it mean? How did they deal with the disappointment? What kind of opposition will they face in the NIVC? What do they want to get out of it?
Getting to “Set 5” but falling short of the NCAA Tournament
The Wildcats had specific things they wanted to accomplish in each set. Set one, which was the extremely soft nonconference slate, was to learn how to mesh and win together.

Fixing the offensive line was going to be a major point of emphasis for Arizona when the NCAA transfer portal officially opens next week. The departure of one of its top linemen only exacerbates that area of need.
Redshirt sophomore Wendell Moe Jr. announced Friday he plans to enter the portal when it opens on Monday, the seventh Wildcat to announce their intentions this week and by far the most significant of the group.

he 6-foot-2, 339-pound Moe started 11 games this past season for the UA, and in three years made 27 starts, all at left guard. A late addition to the landmark 2022 recruiting class, a concussion during preseason camp kept Moe out of action until late his freshman year before he started all 13 games in 2023. He played in every game this fall but did not start against Texas Tech.

Arizona head coach Adia Barnes was concerned about the Wildcats’ energy at practice on Wednesday afternoon. The team was preparing for GCU, an opponent that has exploited the very problem the Wildcats have had all season: turnovers.
Arizona came into the game averaging 19.9 turnovers per game. GCU has forced their opponents into 18.4. The Wildcats kept it slightly under their average, but 17 turnovers, nine missed free throws, and an inability to keep up with Trinity San Antonio were enough to give the Lopes a 69-66 win in the two programs’ first-ever matchup.

UA coach Brent Brennan announced Thursday that he is replacing all three coordinators after one season.
